New Ombudsman of China

Ms. Ma Wen, Deputy Secretary of the
Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the
Communist Party of China (CPC), was recently appointed as the
new Minister of Supervision .
The AOA Secretariat would like to
extend a warm welcome to the new Minister and looks forward to
be working with Ms. Ma Wen and benefitting from her experience.
Ms. Ma Wen, 59, a native of Wuqiao county of North China's Hebei
Province, joined the CPC in 1972.
After graduation from Nankai
University in 1982, Ms.Ma worked as Deputy Secretary of the
branch school of Nankai University CPC Committee and Deputy
Secretary of CPC Nankai University Committee. She began to serve
as member of the Standing Committee of CCDI in 1997 and was
appointed Deputy Secretary of the CCDI in 2004.
Ma's predecessor, Li Zhilun, died of
illness at the age of 65 in April. (Xinhua) |

New Ombudsman of Sindh Pakistan appointed |

Mr. Asad
Ashraf Malik, formerly Chairman Anti-Corruption (AC) Sindh has
been appointed as the Ombudsman of Sindh.
The AOA
Secretariat extends a warm welcome to the new Ombudsman of Sindh
and looks forward to benefitting from his experience and
expertise. Mr. Asad Ashraf who is highly respected for his
integrity and principles, has a rich experience of law and
administration spanning over 35 years. He is a graduate in Civil
Engineering from NED University and has a diploma in Business
Administration from IBA.
He has served on
various important assignments like Director Intelligence Bureau,
Commissioner Sindh Social Security, DIG Headquarters, Additional
Inspector General of Police Sindh, Capital City Police Officer
Karachi, Chairman Cotton Export Cooperation and before taking
over as Provincial Ombudsman he was posted as Chairman
Anti-Corruption Sindh since
2004.
During his
service as Chairman AC Sindh and during his tenure as head of
the anti-corruption establishment since 2004 Mr.Malik was able
to retrieve 25,000 acres of Government of Sindh land, which had
been occupied and owned Fraudulently through furnishing bogus
documents. |

Wafaqi Mohtasib of Pakistan Re-elected President of the Asian Ombudsman Association |

The Wafaqi Mohtasib, Mr. Javed Sadiq Malik, was re-elected unopposed as the President of the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA) at the General Assembly meeting of the AOA held in Hanoi recently.
The Wafaqi Mohtasib will have the honor of serving as the President for another four year term. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Malik thanked the General Assembly for the confidence reposed in him and in Pakistan’s leadership of the AOA and stated that with the guidance and cooperation of the AOA members, he will address the challenge of further strengthening the AOA as an institutional platform for interaction. It may be noted that the AOA Board of Directors approved a number of new initiatives presented by the Wafaqi Mohtasib for creating a platform for learning and sharing amongst members.
The General Assembly also elected Madam Merceditas N. Gutierrez, Ombudsman for the Philippines as the Vice President, Ms. Alice Yuen-ying Tai, Ombudsman of Hong Kong as the Secretary and Mr. Song Chul-Hi, Chief Ombudsman South Korea, as the Treasurer for a four year term. Furthermore, Iran was elected as a member of the Board of Directors and the Insurance Ombudsman of Pakistan was awarded membership of the AOA.
It may be noted that the AOA, which was established in 1996 and consists of Ombudsmen from 17 Asian countries, has its head quarters located in the office of the Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat, Islamabad and Pakistan has been the President of the Association since its inception. |

OFFICIAL VISIT BY COMMISSION
AGAINST CORRUPTION (CCAC), MACAO TO PUBLIC COMPLAINTS BUREAU

PUTRAJAYA
- Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) Macao had visited the
Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) on 1st April 2008. The four
member delegation was headed by its Commissioner, Mr. Cheong U.
Other delegates were Chief of Cabinet, Miss Ho Ioc San, Chief
Investigator, Mr. Ivo Donat Firmo Mineiro and CCACs Public
Relations Officer, Miss Kong Sut Ieng.
The delegation
was received by Director General of PCB, Dr. Chua Hong Teck at
PCBs office around 9a.m. Later, a briefing on PCBs roles and
responsibilities was given by Dr. Chua Hong Teck himself to the
delegates. Dr. Chua Hong Teck also exchanges his views with the
delegation on several matters.
Several senior
officers of PCB also have attended the briefing session. Those
who attended were Deputy Director General I, Mr. Md. Zin bin
Musa and Deputy Director General II, Mrs. Hajjah Umi Kalthom
binti Haji Mohd. Din. The briefing session ended at 11a.m and
after that, the delegation departed to the Anti Corruption
Agency (ACA), Putrajaya for their next visit. |
